Joan of Arc was 17 yrs old when she convinced the future King Charles to let her lead the French Army to lift the seige of Orleans.
He agreed.
She did just that before returning to the King and arguing her case to now go do the same in Paris - emphatic that if they didn't, the English would gain strength and occupy more of France. The King dismissed her and her ideas as unneccessary.
When the English gained a stronger foothold in France a short time later, they made a point of trying Joan of Arc for heresy and witchcraft.
After 19 years on this earth, she was tied to a stake and set on fire in Rouen, France.
Joan of Arc's decision to keep her hair cut short and wear men's clothes was one of common sense given her role and leadership of the French Army. While born a peasant, Joan accomplished so much in her 19 years that in 1920, she was Sainted by the Catholic Church.
